ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Melissa! I am the creative mind behind the brand, "Made by Moonpuff." Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions please feel free to send them my way by using my contact form.

WHAT’S A MOONPUFF?

Honestly, I don't know! It was a username that I made up 20+ years ago when I was in high school. I considered using my own name for my design business, but ultimately I decided that it wasn’t unique enough and I didn't feel like it accurately represented the spirit of my art. So, Made by Moonpuff was born. Quirky and cute, just like my designs.

Why surface design?

I majored in art in college and I have always wanted to get back to my artistic roots. So, when the chance to pursue a new career presented itself, I explored my creative options. It took me a while to find surface design but once I did it just clicked.

How would you describe your art style?

I describe my art as cute and quirky surface design made with love. I have been exploring and branching out, but ultimately my designs seem to stick to this same theme. The playful energy of my designs works well for a variety of applications especially kids’ designs, giftwrap, fabric, crafts, and more.

What is your process?

My favorite part of the design process is sketching. I love coming up with ideas, researching, and playing around with all the different ways I can implement it. Then I import my sketches into Procreate where I start to rough in the details. Finally, I decide if I am going to make it a raster or vector design. If I make it vector I create well-thought-out layers with the monoline brush so that I can easily us the image trace function in Illustrator. If I decide to make it a raster design I play around with different styles and brushes until I settle on how I want it to look. Again, I carefully construct the layers so I can later create Smart Objects in Photoshop for greater flexibility.

Where can I find your designs?

My designs are available in a variety of places. Many of my patterns are available on Spoonflower where they can be purchased as fabric, wallpaper, and home decor. I also have an Etsy shop where I sell my designs for a variety of uses like cut files and clipart. Lastly, I use some of my art on low content books that I publish on KDP.

Do you accept freelance work?

Definitely. I pride myself on being easy to collaborate with and hard working. Please let me know what kind of project you have in mind!

Which oF your designs aRE available for licensing?

All designs in my portfolio are available for licensing. Although, some may already be licensed in specific categories. I am also willing to consider a full buyout for most designs. I have many designs on Spoonflower that are not in my portfolio. If you see something on Spoonflower that you like keep in mind that I also will consider licensing the designs you see there. Contact me to find out more.

What do you do when you are not making surface designs?

I love crafting. I find that it is particularly satisfying to sew using my own fabric designs or create a papercraft from one of my cut files. Games, both video games and board games, are one of my absolute favorite pastimes. I also always enjoy curling up with a good book or sketching while watching my favorite television shows. You will notice that often time my hobbies influence my artwork.
